And before we take you to something very special today, let me ask you some questions first.
Have you ever heard of the Merfolk deck in Modern before?
How about in Commander?
Of course, I’m pretty sure all of you fellow MTG players have heard about this little fish-man tribal at least once, or better you have tried them out for yourself.
And we all know too well, these fish-man haven’t made it to the top of any meta... ever.
But what if I told you, there is a particular card in MTG that is going to change all of that.
Not only in Merfolk janky decks, but it is capable of being the new “Fatal push”
Let’s us show you, our Modern Horizon 2 Spoiler card

Before we go deeper into the tide, let me explain the term of being “Fatal push”.
What we are trying to say is a card that as an uncommon (or worst) can impact the meta like Fatal push did.
You see it's being played in most deck with black (only outside commander, I think)
So how can this little merfolk challenge the throne of a meta-changing-uncommon? We will see.
At first glance, he is just a first turn drop with a type that is relevant, a “Merfolk”.
A creature that is cast for 1 blue mana and gives you a 1/1 isn’t even capable of doing anything... in any format. But since he is a merfolk, that means you can play any “merfolk lord” on turn two. So he becomes a 2/2 with islandwalk... Island... yep his kicker ability becomes something now.
You can kick him for 1 extra mana to change any land into an Island... and any merfolk fella in your deck with a little help from your lord becomes an unblockable force now!

Not impressed?
Ha ha me neither, only tribal synergy isn’t enough to push him to impact the meta.
So, what if I told you... you just “Spreading Seased” that land and made it an Island. Not just giving it an additional type.
This means you can shut down any lands-matter deck for just 2 mana, and honestly this is more annoying than just destroying that land off of the board.
Let’s say, your opponent is playing any version of a Tron decks, on his/her second land you transform it into an island. That means your opponent is missing like 4 mana in the next turn.
What if they play any deck that cares a lot about what color their lands can produce, like Jund? Normally they need 2 black mana to cast Liliana of the Veil in the next turn... at least they lose their tempo, or just outright need to play something else.
Still not impressed?
What if I told you he can be a solid choice in our beloved casual formats like Commander too!
Since Commander tends to play out slower than any other format, spending an extra mana to hamper your opponent’s lands costs almost nothing to your tempo.
He can be included in any popular Merfolk tribal Commander deck.
Blue-White with Sygg, River Guide. He gives Islandwalk with protection, so you can see the easy synergy here. One gives an island, the other gives protection and evasion.
Green-Blue with Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca. Who does care for the number of merfolk on the board. Our Tide Shaper is a no-brainer one drop, or better yet a two drop with kicker and a lot of Merfolk lords that you are going to include in your arsenal anyway.

สวัสดีเพื่อนๆ มิตรรักนักตบไพ่ทั้งหลาย สำหรับเพื่อนๆ ที่เล่นการ์ดเกม Magic the Gathering แล้วยังไม่รู้จักพวกเรา หรือหลงเข้ามา

เคยเห็นเดคของพวกเขาใน Format: Modern มั้ย?
หรือใน Format อย่าง Commander ล่ะ?
เราเชื่อว่า เพื่อนๆ หลายๆ คน ต้องเคยผ่านหู ผ่านตา การ์ดเผ่า Merfolk บ้างไม่มากก็น้อย... หรือบางคนอาจจะเคยทำเดคมาเล่นกับ Creature มนุษย์ปลาเหล่านี้แล้วก็เป็นได้
แต่ก็เป็นที่รู้ๆ กันว่า... ชาวเงือกน้อยของพวกเรา ไม่ค่อยเป็นที่นิยมอยู่ใน Meta ซักเท่าไหร่...
ในวันนี้ เรามีเรื่องที่น่าตื่นเต้นจะมาเล่าให้เพื่อนๆ ฟัง... วันมีการ์ดอยู่ใบหนึ่ง ที่สามารถเปลี่ยนโฉมหน้าการเล่นเดค Merfolk... ไม่สิ การ์ดใบนี้ อาจจะเสริม Meta ของ Format: Modern ได้เลย

เพื่อนๆ จำ Fatal Push ได้มั้ยครับ?
การ์ดที่สร้างเพื่อเล่นใน Format: Standard แต่กลับส่งผลให้แทบทุกๆ เดคที่ติดสีดำใน Format: Modern ต้องไปตามหามาใส่
พี่ Tide Shaper ของเรา ก็มีความใกล้เคียงจะเป็นแบบนั้นเช่นกัน! จะเป็นไปได้ยังไง ลองตามอ่านกันต่อได้เลยครับ
แน่นอนว่า เมื่อแรกอ่าน เขาเป็นแค่ Creature ใน Tribal: Merfolk ที่ร่าย 1 มานา ได้ 1/1... มันช่างน่าหดหู่เสียเหลือเกิน
แต่ช้าก่อน เขามาพร้อมกับ Ability: Kicker ที่เราจ่ายเพิ่มเพียง 1 มานา เขาจะ ”เปลี่ยน” แลนด์ ของคู่ต่อสู่เรา ให้กลายเป็น Island
นอกจากนี้ เขายังได้ความสามารถเพิ่ม และกลายเป็น 2/2 Islandwalk
ถ้าเรามองหาบรรดา Merfolk Lord หรือ Merfolk ที่ช่วยเสริมพลังให้กับประชากร Merfolk อื่นๆ พวกเขาจะให้ Islandwalk เพิ่มเติมจากการเพิ่มพลัง +1/+1 อยู่แล้ว
ซึ่งเมื่อรวมเข้ากับความสามารถในการ Kicker จาก Tide Shaper ของเรา นั่นหมายความว่า คู่ต่อสู้ของเราจะถูกบังคับให้มี Island อยู่แน่นอน
บรรดาเพื่อนพ้อง Merfolk ของเรา จะกลายเป็นกองทัพเงือกที่ไม่สามารถบล็อกได้ไปในทันที!

ยังไม่ประทับใจใช่มั้ยล่ะครับ?
พวกเราก็เช่นกัน...
แต่ถ้าเราบอกว่า คู่ต่อสู้ของเรา กำลังเล่นเดคที่ต้องการแลนด์เฉพาะทางมากๆ ล่ะครับ?
ความสามารถในการเปลี่ยนแลนด์ Tron หนึ่งใบ ให้กลายเป็น Island ทำให้เทิร์น 3 ที่เขาควรจะมี 7 มานา เหลือเพียง 3 มานาทันที!
หรือถ้าคู่ต่อสู้ของเรา เล่นเดคที่ต้องการสีมากๆ อย่างเช่น Jund การเปลี่ยนแลนด์หนึ่งแลนด์ของเขา ให้กลายเป็นสีอื่นๆ ก็เป็นการทำลายจังหวะได้อย่างดี
โดยปกติแล้ว ใน Format: Modern ผู้เล่นเดค Merfolk จะแก้ไขปัญหาเหล่านี้ด้วยการ์ดอย่าง Spreading Sea แต่เมื่อมี Tide Shaper มาใน Meta แล้ว แม้ว่าเราจะเสียการเติมการ์ดบนมือจาก Spreading Sea ไป
แต่เราจะได้ 2/2 ที่พร้อมเสริมพลังให้เพื่อน Merfolk และรับพลังจากบรรดา Lord ได้อีกด้วย
แล้วถ้าพูดถึง Format สดใสๆ(?) อย่าง Commander ล่ะ?
Commander เรียกได้ว่าเป็น Format ที่เปิดกว้างให้ผู้เล่นได้ใช้จินตนาการในการสร้างเดคแบบฉบับของตัวเองพอสมควร และการมาถึงของ Tide Shaper นั้น ถือได้ว่าทำให้เดคที่เล่นกับ Merfolk นั้น ได้การ์ดที่จะมาเสริมพลังเข้าไปอีกหนึ่งใบ
เดคยอดฮิตอย่าง เขียว-ฟ้า Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca. นั้น เราสามารถเลือกที่จะร่าย Tide Shaper ลงมาเพียงเพื่อเพิ่มจำนวน ให้ Kumena สามารถใช้ความสามารถได้ง่ายขึ้น
หรือถ้ามี Merfolk lord ตัวอื่นๆ ยืนรออยู่แล้ว เราก็สามารถใช้ความสามารถ Kicker เพื่อให้เพื่อน Merfolk ที่มีอยู่มากมายในเดค กลายเป็นกองทัพมนุษย์ปลา Unblockable ที่แสนน่ากลัว!
หรือในเดคอย่าง ขาว-ฟ้า Sygg, River Guide. ที่เขามีความสามารถเสริมพลังให้เพื่อน Merfolk มี Islandwalk นั้น ยิ่งทำให้การใช้ความสามารถ Kicker ของ Tide Shaper ส่งผลให้พี่ Merfolk ตัวใหญ่ๆ ในเดคของเรา วิ่งเข้าชนคู่ต่อสู้ของเราได้อย่างไร้กังวล
